Hot
And Cold Cocoa
We all love the image
of our youngsters gathered around the table in front of big mugs
of hot cocoa with whispers of steam dancing before their joyful
faces.
But, c’mon. We all know it doesn’t work that way. They complain that
it’s too hot, then try to sip out of spoons, which of course spills all
over their laps, causing them to jump down from the table and run away crying.
This is not the spirit of the season that we want to encourage. Go ahead and
make the hot cocoa, but for an extra treat (and to prevent any guilt about burning
your child’s groin) put a big scoop of peppermint, French vanilla, or chocolate
ice cream on top.
Hot
Cocoa Mix
We love to give away gifts
of hot cocoa mix. It makes great presents in glass jars with handmade
tags and festive ribbons. In our vegan family, most of us
prefer to just heat up some rich chocolate soymilk for hot cocoa. It tastes delicious
and is much healthier. However, no one wants to receive a gift of festive ribbon
tied around a carton of soymilk so here is our family’s gift version. Mix
it up and give it away!
* 2 lbs. dry milk
* 6 oz. powdered non-dairy creamer
* 1 lb. 14 oz. box powdered chocolate milk mix
* 1 lb. powdered sugar
* 1 Tsp. cinnamon
