Turn
Mom Jeans Into Rock Star Jeans!
Okay,
so maybe we can’t all grind the ax on stage before millions
of adoring fans. But, you don’t have to be a rock star to
dress like a rock star. So forget about those dull, boring mom
jeans. You can still be a red hot mama when you are strutting your
stuff in some designer jeans. And the best designer jeans are the
ones you design yourself. Try these easy steps to turn those mom
jeans into your very own custom designed rock star jeans.
Step One: Bleach It.
Mix up a solution of half bleach and half water, saturate an old rag with the
solution, and then rub it on your jeans on the places that would normally show
wear (down the center of the thighs and the seat of your pants). Next, get an
old toothbrush, dip it in straight bleach, and flick it on the jeans for an edgy
touch. Don’t fret over making mistakes. Remember, these are rock star jeans.
Rock stars don’t make mistakes. They just show their style in unconventional
methods!
Step Two: Distress It.
Now, let’s tear things up a bit. Get a seam ripper and take out the bottom
hem. That’s right—just take it all out to leave a raw edge. This
will naturally fray over time and laundering, and will look especially cool.
If the jeans are too long after you take out the hem, then just cut them off
to a length that fits. But remember to keep the edge unfinished so that it frays.
Use your seam ripper again to take out the outside seam up to about mid-calf.
This will flare out the bottom a bit, as well as make them look awesome. If you
want to take it one step further, you can run eyelets up the sides of the open
seam and then lace leather through it. So hot!!
Step Three: Decorate It.
This is where you really bring your personality into the picture. Go to the craft
store and pick up a bunch of patches and iron-ons and put them all over the jeans,
especially the pockets. You can also get some fabric glue and embellish your
jeans with jewels and sequins. Rivets also give it a rock star touch, and they
are easy to put on with a simple tool that you can pick up at any craft store.
Paint is fun to use, and you can do so much with it. Paint some cool designs
on your jeans with fabric paint. But, for a more industrial feel, you can use
some stencils and some spray paint to decorate your jeans. And for that final
touch, get some embroidery floss and embellish the pockets with some stitching
or simply stitch some simple design or words on your jeans—how about the
words, “HOT MAMA?”
There you go. Now you have some awesome rock star jeans and some adoring fans
following you around. Fortunately, they won’t bug you for your autograph—just
the occasional bedtime story! Rock on!
